Overview

The objective of the OTHM RQF Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Health and Social Care is to equip learners with the underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills required for a career in the health and social care sector at a support worker, senior support worker or care assistant level. The programme enables learners to demonstrate their skills by producing evidence from their work activities, to meet national occupational standards. Learners will acquire skills to support a role in the Health and Social Care sector or progress to further study.

Course Outline

The NVQ Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Health and Social Care includes 6 mandatory units, totaling 60 credits. This qualification requires 600 hours of Total Qualification Time (TQT) and 120 Guided Learning Hours (GLH).

Requirements

The OTHM NVQ Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Health and Social Care is available to learners from age 18. Although OTHM does not specify strict entry requirements, it ensures that learners admitted to the programme have sufficient capability at the appropriate level. This capability is necessary to successfully undertake the learning and assessment criteria.

The OTHM Centre must recruit learners with integrity, ensuring they are placed into qualifications that meet their needs. This approach enables and facilitates learning, achievement, and progression. The qualification is offered in English.

Assessment

All units in this qualification undergo internal assessment by the center and external verification by OTHM. These qualifications follow a criterion-referenced approach, focussing on achieving all specified learning outcomes.

To pass a unit, learners must provide evidence demonstrating that they have met all the learning outcomes. They must also meet the standards specified by the assessment criteria. The Assessor makes the judgment on whether learners have successfully fulfilled these criteria.

Additionally, the Assessor must create an audit trail that clearly shows how they arrived at their judgment of the learners’ overall achievement. This process ensures transparency and accountability in the assessment, allowing for a fair and thorough evaluation.
